Google Sitelinks Update?

I happen to see a new format of Google Sitelinks while performing search query this morning.

Notice the layout of the links. They occupy less space but they are also aren’t as prominent as in previous layout as shown here.

Another query showed a surprising layout. The top ranked didn’t get any sitelink at all, but the site ranked below it has sitelinks using the new format!

Google Sitelink Enhancement?

So far I not yet found an official statement from Google regarding this update.

Don’t Link To Blacklisted Sites, Mate

Australia’s Australian Communications and Media Authority has warned websites that linking to banned sites will face a fine of A$11,000 a day. This comes after online forum Whirlpool is slapped with the same warning after posting a link to an outlawed website.

Does this refer only to Australian websites? Websites with .au? Websites hosted in Australia? Websites run by Australians? Websites accessed in Australia? Lots of questions out there.

Open Directory / DMOZ for Sale to BOTW?

Sorry if it took a while for me to get my hand into posting entries here lately.

One of the recent rumors I heard (for me, rumors can be a bad topic to discuss) is that AOL, the parent company of The Open Directory Project / ODP / DMOZ is in talks with owners of Best of the Web (BOTW) to purchase this popular directory. As with any rumors, no financial considerations were disclosed. BOTW is a money-making venture to list down websites on its directory. Applicants are charged with US$249.99 price tag for a listing review. This review does not guarantee a listing, which is a risk to a submitting party. On the other hand, DMOZ may not guarantee a listing, but at least it does not charge URL submitters any amount for listing consideration.

6 Tips When Outsourcing Link Building Campaigns

Link campaigns can be a very challenging part of an SEO campaign. No wonder there are lots of companies trying to outsource link building activities. This demand created companies that specifically do link building jobs. However, as with any other outsourcing jobs, there are tricky spots that come along with these client-vendor arrangements that are oceans apart in many occasions.

Search Engine Roundtable offers a variety of tips (from an SEO discussion thread) to those who plan to outsource their link building campaigns.

Do not pay in advance
Applies generally to all businesses and not just linking campaigns. Paying in advance gives the crooks a reason to hide from you and look for new victims, if that’s their main business.

Strange URL Indexed By Google

A strange URL shows up within Google search results (see image). I was under the impression that this type of URL can’t be indexed since it is not properly formed. But I guess even with a badly formed URL that I suspect came out of a wrongly coded HTML (ampersands within a line break
tag), search engine spiders can retrieve it if it has an href attribute.

To me, it doesn’t highlight Google’s Easter Egg feature, but an HTML coder’s mistake.
