Hong Kong Ticketing: Making Websites Serve Their Purpose

At the beginning of every year, a surge in demand for Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tickets takes place. Yet, it appears that overeager patrons find it very frustrating to use the HK Ticketing, the official website to book tickets online and to call for reservations.

A number of feedback was received by South China Morning Post regarding how their attempts in securing venue tickets went. Debbie McGowan of Happy Valley expressed dismay on the apparent difficulty in finding tickets in an orderly fashion. Debbie cited that both the website and ticket hotline were unable to address the surge in demand for Sevens tickets.

Towngas and Sitelinks Hints from Hong Kong Websites

In many occasions, I am asked by website owners how to obtain Google Sitelinks. For those who are not yet familiar, Google Sitelinks is a set of links that appear below some site listings on search engine results. The aim of Sitelinks is to help users navigate through the site even before reaching them.

Appearance of Sitelinks is influenced by many factors, notably first place rankings, specific (brand) search terms, volume of search query demand and others. However, it is also influenced by how links are organized within a website. An example is the case of Towngas, a domestic and industrial gas supplier and one of Hong Kong’s oldest companies. Its website is available in English and Traditional Chinese while its homepage is composed of a selection between text and HTML versions of the two languages.

Buy East Asian Games Tickets Online Opportunity

If you are a scalper or someone trying to dispose of your East Asian Games ticket, you might be happy to know that a search for “east asian games tickets’ don’t display any ticket website on the first page of Google search results. This could mean that for people who fail to find relevant information on where to buy tickets (me included) may have to look elsewhere to secure them. I wanted to watch taekwondo and volleyball events but so far I am empty handed.

Hong Kong Government Sites Canonicalization Issue

Canonicalization is a relatively new term introduced in the realm of search engine marketing as a way to describe how website URLs are formed. It is the process of picking the best url when there are several choices, and it usually refers to home pages. For example, if your website’s homepage is www.abc.com, it may also come in other forms such as www.abc.com/index.html or abc.com (without the www prefix). Search engines (particularly Google) try to pick the url that seems like the best represents the set of URLs.

But even before search engines get the opportunity to figure it out, are we sure we make our homepage accessible through these variation of URL formats? Let’s take a look at the following Hong Kong government websites. While this does not apply to all, there are websites that don’t display the homepage using the non-www format.

Toys ‘R’ Us: Importance of Search Marketing for Toy Retailers

Last month, The Nielsen Company released its findings from a survey about spending habits of parents when it comes to children. Spending is a thorny topic during recession. But just like cheap dining or wedding preparations, baby and child care consumers seem unperturbed and unaffected. These customers are basically parents who want the best for their kids.

The survey by The Nielsen Company showed that besides school related fees, seven in 10 parents said they also spend on additional learning tools and tutorial classes for their children, over 80 percent spend on toys and entertainment for their children and over half spend on extra-curriculum activities such as sports and musical instruments learning etc. This translates to an average of HK$3,000 monthly spend for each child.
