Almost three months since I posted the first blog on SEO in China, here’s the follow up statistics.
According to China Internet Network Information Center, here’s the 2005 search engine share in the market:
Beijing
- Baidu – 51.5%
- Google – 32.9%
- Sohu – 4.6%
- Sina – 4.0%
- Yahoo! Search (3721, Yisou, Yahoo! China & Global Search) – 3.7%
- Others – 3.3%
Shanghai
- Baidu 43.9%
- Google 38.2%
- Yahoo! Search (3721, Yisou, Yahoo! China & Global Search) 4.6%
- Sohu 3.9%
- Sina 2.5%
- Others 6.9%
Guangzhou
- Baidu – 48.0%
- Google – 28.7%
- Yahoo! Search (3721, Yisou, Yahoo! China & Global Search) – 7.4%
- Sohu – 3.8%
- Netease – 2.5%
- Others – 9.1%
For new search users (6 months or less), the following search engines are used primarily:
- Baidu – 48.2%
- Sohu – 19.6%
- Google – 12.5%
- Sina – 7.1%
- 3721 – 3.6%
What users search and where (in order of preference)
- Web pages and web sites – Google, Sohu, Baidu
- Downloadable music – Baidu, Google, Sohu
- Shopping – Google, Sohu, Baidu
- Reference – Google, Baidu, Sohu
