I wouldn't say that HK is slow to adopt twitter vs. any other country, except for the US. The twitter fad has recently picked up in the last few months in the US. And just like other US born social tools (i.e. facebook), it'll eventually catch on internationally. Give it about 6 months.

But to be honest, I'm not a big believer of twitter. In the ideal world, the overall twitter population should probably be run as a non-profit like wikipedia, and then subsequent twitter communities should be instilled a la facebook groups. Then again, google friend connect might be going in that direction soon as well.

In Hong Kong, web forums serve mutiple purposes. One of them is to provide a means to share the latest information. Do you know that Hong Kong newspaper have reporters "stayed" at the most popular forums to dig out the news? I will say that quite many HK Internet users, especially the younger generation prefers the forum way.

This is quite sad for HK people trying to develop/build social newtork/application, they need to ask, can they beat the forums?
