SaSa.com SEO: Dynamic Meta Tag Optimization

SaSa is one of Hong Kong’s ubiquitous shops we conveniently find on busy shopping districts in Hong Kong such as Causeway Bay and Mong Kok. If you find these places too crowded and provided you know which item to buy, you can go online to make purchases.

The website of Sasa contains numerous products if its top level navigation would indicate: for him, for baby, slimming, health, etc. And with such number of products, we expect a tedious job of creating custom page titles and Meta description (yes, it is important to pay close attention to Meta description). Right now, we only see “Sasa.com: Best Beauty & Health Care Products” which applies to every page. This statement is correct but is not customized for certain products and product categories.

So how do we implement custom page title and Meta description to SaSa pages without requiring too much effort? My answer is to implement rule set to generate a dynamic page title or Meta description. This is similar to dynamic keyword insertion in paid search. Note that this requires presence of content management system which I am certain that SaSa Cosmetics uses.

1. Identify major categories
This could be the ones that appear in the navigation menu. List them all and identify the submenus associated with them. For example, under “for her” are “skincare”, “fragrance”, “makeup”, etc.

2. Gather all products that belong to main and sub menus
In the case of the example in #1, these will be products under “skincare”, “fragrance”, “makeup”, etc. under “for her”. Another group will be “for him” which includes “skincare”, “fragrance”, “bodycare”, etc.

3. Formulate the rule set that applies to each product within a certain category
Let’s consider the “for him” category. One of the products is BIOTHERM HOMME HYDRA-DETOX 2 Oxygenating Cleanser. Let’s observe what are the significant contents we can find within the page that people are probably looking for.

a. Product name
b. Price
c. Description
d. Product Review
e. Payment Option

Add the category name where this product belongs. In this case, it’s “for him” and “skincare” which indicates this is a men’s skincare product.

Note that if price fluctuates very often it’s advisable not to include it in the Meta Description as updates in search engine index may not be as frequent as changes on product pricing.

Again, this method requires a content management system that will help manage product listings without the need to dig deeper into the HTML source code of each product. By doing this rule set, we can save time in producing the ever important page titles and Meta descriptions. But be sure to allocate time to check titles and Meta descriptions to ensure quality output.
